Whitewashing & Limewashing

Weathered Looks. Timeless Finishes.

What's the difference between whitewash and limewash? How do I know what to choose?

Let's break it down:

Whitewash

This is one of Rolling Thunder Painting Company's signature finishes. A custom whitewashed finish can soften brick while still letting it's texture and character show through. Whether you want bold contrast, or a subtle glow, we tailor the coverage to suit your space perfectly, and turn your Halifax home, into a Halifax haymaker.

Limewash

Looking for a more natural, breathable, mineral-based finish with a soft patina and a timeless feel? Limewash is an excellent choice - especially for porous surfaces like brick or stone. Typically used outdoors, but can still be brought inside, it offers long-term durability, breathability, and a classic matte finish that only gets better with time - just like Rolling Thunder.

Please note: Due to whitewash typically being made up of a diluted latex-based paint, it reduces the natural breathability of brick and masonry and may lead to premature failure of the surface due to trapped moisture. For this reason it is not recommended for use in interior spaces that regularly exceed 60% humidity and/or have poor ventilation, or on surfaces where moisture may wick up from the ground or foundation.
